After 11 years of dispute over the location of a town hall, the town adopted a city charter form of government and became the City of Nashua, New Hampshire in 1853. By the year 1878, six major railroad lines had been constructed leading to and from the city. From then until the early 1900s, many families immigrated to America and settled their families in Nashua, further expanding the already great industry. Both World Wars served to keep the industry booming, but by the end of WWII the industry was finally reaching the top of the hill. The Southern States were now competing to construct manufacturing plants, and towns and cities like Nashua had to change their thinking. Many were unemployed, as the money was not present to continue expanding manufacturing.
From this, the Nashua we know today was born. Many organized to purchase the land that empty textile mills sat on, and worked to attract new industries to the city. Highways were constructed through Nashua in 1956, and new people and new business brought renewed life to this great town. What was almost a catastrophic failure became the thriving city we know and love today.
Nashua isn’t only a nice place to live from all the people to meet or the history. The sights can be a thing to behold. As Nashua is a New England town, its buildings and sights reflect that of a classic colonial town, with a few modern touches.
